A car caught fire on the Edinburgh city bypass during morning rush hour, causing long tailbacks.

The Citroen Picasso burst into flames between the Dreghorn and Baberton junctions of the A720 at 8.25am on Tuesday.

Police and firefighters were called to the scene and both lanes of the eastbound carriageway were closed for a short time to allow the fire to be extinguished.

A police spokeswoman said no one had been injured in the incident.
