CCTV images have been released in connection with a "distressing" robbery at an East Lothian newsagent.

A shop assistant was assaulted and a four-figure sum of cash was stolen at the Mini Market in New Row, Tranent, last month.

Police said they were keen to speak to the man pictured in the CCTV images as their investigation continues.

Anyone who recognises the man, who was pictured around the time of the incident at 8.15pm on Thursday, August 18.

The man is described as white, in his 40s, around 6ft 2in tall, with a medium build, short brown hair and dark stubble.

He was wearing a dark blue jacket, dark grey jeans, light brown boots, black gloves, dark scarf and a black trapper style cap.

Detective Constable John Fortune, of Dalkeith CID, said: "Although the shopkeeper did not require medical treatment, this was a very distressing incident for the members of staff involved.

"Consequently we would urge anyone who recognises the male, his description, or may have seen him in the area to come forward."
