Two men have been charged with the attempted murder of an Edinburgh shopkeeper.

Tahir Ahmed, 53, required hospital treatment for serious head injuries after the incident at his shop A & A Stores, on the corner of South Trinity Road and Cargill Terrace, on August 12.

The two men are alleged to have confronted him and demanded money before attacking him with a weapon.

At the High Court in Edinburgh on Wednesday, David Allan, 49, and Liam McMeechan, 22, were both charged with attempted murder, attempted robbery and assault to severe injury.

McMeechan also faces a charge of police assault.

Both men made no plea or declaration and were remanded in custody.

They are due back in court later this week.
