A teacher has been struck off after a watchdog found allegations she engaged in sexual activity with a pupil were proven.

Isabelle Graham, who taught French at a West Lothian secondary, was alleged to have drunk alcohol with the 17-year-old boy before sharing a bed with him at a hotel room in June last year.

The General Teaching Council (GTS) published its findings on Thursday after a panel found the charges proven.

Ms Graham did not attend the hearing last month, however she claimed that her drink had been "spiked" on the night of the incident and said she was "not acting of her own volition".

She wrote to the watchdog, stating she could not remember anything of the night and disputed the claims.

She was alleged to have accompanied Pupil A and other pupils from a hotel in central Edinburgh to another hotel nearby following the prom.

The panel concluded that Ms Graham had "failed to maintain a professional boundary with pupils".

In its decision, the panel said: "She had various opportunities to remove herself from the situation, which she did not take, such as when she was offered a lift home at the end of the night by another teacher.

"[Ms Graham] was well aware of difficulties which may arise when professional boundaries are not observed."

The panel concluded her conduct - which also included drinking alcohol with an underage pupil - was "entirely inappropriate and unprofessional".

Ms Graham was suspended by West Lothian Council after the allegations came to light, and she is understood to have since quit her job.

An earlier criminal case against Ms Graham, who no longer lives in Scotland, had been dropped.
