Motorbikes have been stolen from two German tourists visiting Midlothian.

The owners were staying in a hotel in Dalkeith when their vehicles were taken.

The theft took place outside the County Hotel on the High Street overnight between 8pm on Sunday and 8.30am on Monday.

Police are trying to trace the red Moto-Guzzi 1200 Sport and silver BMW K1200 RS, and are appealing for information from the public.

Inspector Michelle Ritchie from Dalkeith Police Station said: "The theft of these bikes has greatly impacted on the victims' holiday and we are currently pursuing a number of lines of inquiry to trace the suspects and reunite the bikes with their owners.

"Anyone who saw any suspicious activity around the County Hotel on either Sunday evening or Monday morning should contact police immediately.

"In addition, anyone who believes they may have seen the motorcycles since this time, or who knows there current whereabouts is also urged to get in touch."

Anyone with information is being asked to contact Police Scotland on 101 or alternatively, the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
