A blaze has broken out in a derelict school, prompting police to issue a warning about trespassing.

Firefighters were called to the old Buckhaven High at around 9.15pm on Sunday.

It took crews from Methil and Kirkcaldy two hours to tackle a blaze in the roof space.

Demolition work has started at the Methilhaven Road site and the building is classed as dangerous.

Five people have already been reported in connection with vandalism and theft of the school, which closed earlier this year.

Community inspector Tom Brown said: "We would like to stress the dangers of entering the building and any person caught doing so will face charges.

"Due to the demolition work the old school has become increasingly hazardous and anybody entering the site is at risk of serious injury.

"Security has been increased but any person entering or attempting to enter will be prosecuted.

"Five people have already been reported to the procurator fiscal for offences including theft and vandalism since the closure of the school."
