A woman driver was punched in the face after coming across a parked car blocking a road in the Borders.

She had been driving on the B6359 near Hawick at around 10.30pm on Sunday night when she had to stop because of the vehicle in front.

The motorist was then attacked by a man but managed to drive her vintage Ford Cortina away from the scene and alert police.

A police spokesman said: "The incident happened between Hasselden and Clarilaw.

"A 32-year-old woman was driving home when a parked vehicle on the roadway forced her to come to a stop.

"At this time she was punched to the face by a male suspect before driving off and reporting the matter to police.

"Enquiries to establish the full circumstances are ongoing and anyone with information is asked to come forward."
