Tributes have been paid to a teenage girl who died after a house party in Midlothian over the weekend.

Shellie Callaghan took ill at the property in Newtongrange in the early hours of Saturday.

The 16-year-old was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary but doctors could not save her.

Police issued a drugs warning after her death, saying that they were investigating the possibility that she had access to "ecstacy-type tablets" known as red Bugatti Veyron and purple Ninja Turtle.

Online tributes poured in for the teenager from Newtongrange as news of her death reached family and friends.

One friend said Shellie would be "forever missed by everyone" while another posted: "Rest in peace beautiful."

A teenage girl, who said Shellie was her best childhood friend, said: "Feels like yesterday we were in your back garden making mud pies, and running around your mum's.

"Will never forget those amazing times! Sleep tight my princess. You're in safe hands now."

Several friends have set up the hashtag #smileforshellie, encouraging those who knew Shellie to post a picture in her memory.

Scores of school friends gathered at Newtongrange Park on Sunday evening for a vigil.
