A 65-year-old man has been taken to hospital with serious injuries after he was knocked down by a car in Edinburgh.

The man was hit by a white Renault Clio at the junction of Muirhouse Parkway and Pennywell Medway at around 2.30pm on Thursday.

The pedestrian suffered serious injuries and was rushed to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary where he is being treated.

Police sergeant Iain Blain appealed for witnesses.

He said: "This was a serious collision and we are eager to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the incident.

"If you were in the area and witnessed anything which would help our investigation I would ask that you get in touch with us immediately."
