A teacher has been accused of making an "inappropriate remark" about parking his bike while a primary pupil was getting changed.

Alistair Paul is also accused of kicking the Primary 5 pupil at a school in East Lothian in January 2015.

The comment is alleged to have been made as the pupil was changing his underwear following a PE lesson.

Charges from the General Teaching Council for Scotland (GTCS) tell Mr Paul: "You did make an inappropriate remark to Pupil 1, by stating to him that you were 'looking for somewhere to park your bike' or words to that effect."

The following week, Mr Paul is alleged to have kicked the same pupil on the bottom and the shin and said "get out of my way," then ruffling the boy's hair.

He is said to have been a class teacher at the time of both alleged incidents.

The GTCS says Mr Paul's actions "caused distress and harm" to the pupil. If the charges are found proven, Mr Paul faces sanctions including being suspended or struck off.

A hearing into the matter is due to begin on Tuesday.
