Police are investigating after three assaults were carried out on the Meadows in Edinburgh within 15 minutes of each other.

In each of the incidents, which took place between 3.10am and 3.25am on Sunday, the attackers robbed or attempted to rob the victims of cash or possessions.

All of the suspects are described as wearing dark clothing with scarves over their faces and hoods up.

Police said three of the suspects were white males in their late teens while the other was a black male in his late teens.

During the first attack, on Jawbone Walk, three men approached and assaulted a 28-year-old man before trying to rob him. He was able to get away and called police.

Five minutes later, a 19-year-old man was walking past the tennis courts when he was pushed to a bench and punched in the face. He was robbed of his mobile phone and money.

During the third attack, men aged 19 and 21 were robbed of cash.

Police have asked for anyone with information on the crimes, which are thought to be linked, to come forward.

Detective sergeant Keith Fairbairn from Gayfield CID said: "Fortunately none of the victims were seriously injured as a result of these incidents and we are now eager to speak with any other members of the public who were within the Meadows during the early hours of Sunday morning.

"If you witnessed any suspicious activity, saw the group of males, or believe you can help us identify these individuals, then please contact police immediately."
