A former Scottish Widows employee has been charged with a high-value fraud over a 13-year period.

Robert Lindsay Crawford, 71, is facing allegations he took money while working at the Edinburgh-based pensions firm between May 2001 and December 2014.

STV News understands the charge relates to a sum of several hundred thousand pounds.

A police spokesman said: "A 71-year-old man has been charged following a high-value fraud and a report was submitted to the procurator fiscal."

A Crown Office spokesman said: "The procurator fiscal has received a report concerning a 71-year-old male in connection with alleged incidents said to have occurred between May 1, 2001 and December 31, 2014.

"The report remains under consideration."

A spokeswoman for Scottish Widows declined to comment.
