The boyfriend of a Scottish woman stabbed to death at a Christmas resort in Lapland has been "cooperative" with police, local officers have said.

Rebecca Johnson, 26, from Burntisland in Fife, was found dead following the attack in the Kuttanen region of Finland on Saturday.

Her 36-year-old Czech boyfriend was taken into custody after allegedly fleeing the scene on a dogsled.

Police said Ms Johnson's partner was being treated as a suspect in the murder probe, although he has not been officially charged.

In a press statement released on Wednesday, Lapland Police Department said the accused had been remanded in custody at Lapland District Court.

He continues to be questioned by officers while other evidence is gathered.

The statement said: "Police have been able to hear the suspect earlier this week. The suspect has been cooperative but hasn't been able to clarify a specific motive for his suspected act.

"Police will continue the investigations by hearing the witnesses and the suspect, and by conducting technical investigations."
