Two children and four adults have been rescued from a fire in a block of flats in Dunfermline.

Fire crews were called to the scene after a blaze broke out in the stairwell of the building at 12.35am on Thursday.

Firefighters led the six people to safety from the property in Norway Gardens.

The two girls, aged nine and 13, were given oxygen as they were suffering from the effects of smoke inhalation.

An elderly woman, who was also suffering from smoke inhalation, was handed over to paramedics.

Firefighters had the blaze under control by 2.43am and an investigation will be carried out to establish the cause.
