A woman has died after her car collided with a van on the A1 in East Lothian.

The 26-year-old died at the scene of the crash on the northbound carriageway near Dunbar around 7.50am on Friday.

The van driver, a 54-year-old man, was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary for medical attention.

His injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

Emergency services including an air ambulance attended the incident, which led to the road being closed in both directions between Spott Roundabout and Thistly Cross in Dunbar.

Sergeant Gary Taylor, of the divisional road policing unit, is appealing for anyone who witnessed the crash to come forward.

He said: "Sadly, a young woman has lost her life as a result of this collision and our thoughts are with her family and loved ones at this difficult time.

"I'd urge anyone who was travelling in the area and who witnessed this incident or the movements of either vehicle prior to the collision to contact police immediately if not already done so."
