The mother of a missing RAF serviceman from Fife will lead a specialist search for her son this weekend.

Corrie McKeague has not been seen since the early hours of September 24, when he was on a night out in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk.

Major searches for the 23-year-old, who was based at nearby RAF Honington, have drawn a blank.

Mr McKeague's mother Nicola Urquhart from Dunfermline will travel back to Suffolk on Saturday to conduct a major search.

Ms Urquhart and 30 volunteers will join the SELSAR rescue team in an area covering 40 square miles.

She told STV News she did not want to specify the exact location of the search area but said it was an area police had already looked at.

Ms Urquhart, a serving police officer, said there are "specific lines of inquiry" that she wanted to consider.

She said: "I think there is a good chance that Corrie has passed through there or is possibly still there.

"If we don't find Corrie I'm not going to stop. I'm going to keep on going until we find him."

She said she had been overwhelmed by the support from local people.

"Some people have travelled 200 miles to help," she said.

"The support is just unbelievable. People are desperate to help."

Campaigners are also urging people to take part in a "Twitter storm" on Friday evening from 8pm to 10pm to help raise awareness of the search for Mr McKeague.

People are urged to use the hashtag #RAFCorrie while tweeting about the missing serviceman over the two-hour period.

It is hoped the move will help spread the word about the search for him.
