A neo-Nazi has admitted a petrol bomb attack at a mosque.

Thomas Conington, who has a swastika tattoo on his chest, started the blaze at Edinburgh Central Mosque in September.

Conington, 28, was seen on CCTV and claimed he was innocent after being detained by police in Dalkeith, Midlothian, but on Wednesday he admitted his guilt at the High Court in Glasgow.

He admitted to wilful fire-raising, behaving in a threatening manner and a charge under the Explosives Act, all aggravated by religious prejudice.

Conington also admitted acting in a racially aggravated manner in an encounter with a supermarket security guard during a separate incident.

The court heard Conington had previously set fire to the mosque in July 2015.

Neither attack caused major damage to the building in Potterrow.

Prosecutor Jim Keegan described Conington as a "racist and bigoted individual".

He was remanded in custody pending sentencing in February.
