A bearded dragon has been found left in a shoebox at the foot of Arthur's Seat in Edinburgh.

The reptile was discovered on January 11 by a passer-by who saw the box by St Margaret's Loch in Holyrood Park.

Scottish SPCA officers were called to the loch and found the lizard dehydrated and missing its back right leg as well as the tip of its tail.

He is now being cared for at the rescue centre in Balerno, where staff have named him Ivor.

Chief inspector Paul Anderson said, "Ivor was found without any food or water in a shoebox on Arthur's Seat.

"He was very dehydrated, thin and obviously very cold having been left out like that. He's missing his back right leg, and the tip of his tail.
