The body of a cyclist who died after being crushed by a tour bus in Edinburgh will be flown home to Malaysia.

Zhi Min Soh fell from her bike after its wheel became stuck in a tramline on Princes Street last week.

The 23-year-old was run over by the Rabbie's bus and died of her injuries at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.

Ms Soh, who was a medical student at Edinburgh University, was described as a "bright star of the future" by undergraduate director Dr David Kluth.

"Zhi Min was a talented, thoughtful student, who was well-respected by her peers and always keen to help," he said.

"She will be deeply missed by the medical school community. Our sympathies at this time are with her family and friends. We have all lost a bright star of the future."

Ms Soh, from Puchong, was studying in Scotland under a scholarship sponsored by the Malaysian government.

A spokesman said: "The remains of a Malaysian student at the University of Edinburgh, Soh Zhi Min, will brought home in the near future to be buried in Malaysia."

Ms Soh's family are believed to have flown to Scotland following the accident.

It emerged the next day that another cyclist had been involved in a near-miss at the same junction on Princes Street three weeks earlier.

Luisa Brown is one of around 200 cyclists injured in accidents involving Edinburgh tramlines.

Ms Soh died three years to the day since the trams opened to the public on May 31, 2014.
