Holyrood Palace was cordoned off on Wednesday afternoon after a suspicious letter was delivered.

Police confirmed the letter had been found at the Queen's official residence in Scotland.

Several fire engines were seen parked outside the palace around midday.

Firefighters cordoned off the street outside the building, though the road was reopened around an hour later.

Officers later said the package had been analysed and was not thought to be a risk to the public.

Police are now trying to identify the person who sent the letter.

A police spokeswoman said: "We can confirm that the suspicious letter that was delivered to the Palace of Holyroodhouse on Wednesday, June 7 has been analysed and found not to pose any risk to the public.

"An investigation is now underway to identify the sender and establish the full circumstances surrounding this incident."
