A metre-tall charity box in the shape of a Labrador has been stolen from a hospital.

The Guide Dogs for the Blind box was taken from the Queen Margaret Hospital in Fife on Monday.

Police suspect a man seen nearby before it vanished may be responsible.

Constable Vicki Philip said: "This is a large distinctive object and we feel sure that someone must know who is responsible for the theft."

The police want to speak to a man with grey hair and a light blue tracksuit top seen near the charity box before it was taken between 7.45pm and 8.45pm.

It is unclear how much money was inside the charity box.

Guide Dogs Scotland spokesman Niall Foley added: "Guide Dogs relies on donations from the public to transform the lives of thousands of people living with sight loss and would urge anyone who witnessed the incident to contact Police Scotland."
