A GP surgery in Edinburgh has been vandalised for the fifth time in three weeks, with windows smashed and the front door caved in.

In the latest incident at Liberton Medical Group, a wheelie bin was also set on fire.

The vandalism took place at the surgery around 12.30am on Monday.

Police say they are giving the area increased attention and are following a positive line of inquiry.

Since the vandalism began, 25 windows have been broken as well as the damage to the front door.

Dr Julie Catnach, a partner at the practice, said: "Today was the final straw when we came in to find a further six windows broken and the front door caved in. They has also set fire to one of our rubbish bins.

"We are open but patients are having to come in through the side door."

She added: "We feel frustrated, angry and upset. General practice is tough enough just now without this.

"We have a good team here and work well together but this is very trying

"Our patients are outraged by what has happened. We have had good support from the local police."

A spokeswoman for Police Scotland said: "Police in Edinburgh are continuing to investigate vandalisms in the Liberton area, which include a number of incidents overnight between the evening of Sunday 11th and morning of Monday 12th June.

"These incidents included damage to a premises in Liberton Gardens which has been subject to a number of vandalisms in recent weeks.

"Officers are currently following a positive line of enquiry in connection with these incidents and local officers will be giving the area increased attention.

"Anyone who may have seen suspicious behaviour, or who has information which may be able to help with the ongoing investigation, is urged to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 0571 of 12 June, or report this anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
