Workers have been evacuated from an industrial estate after a hazardous chemical leak.

The incident happened at Newbridge Industrial Estate, Edinburgh, just after 2.30pm on Wednesday.

A unit within the industrial estate has been evacuated and an exclusion zone has been formed due to the alert involving a cylinder.

Several roads in the area have been closed and fire crews are currently at the scene.

A fire spokesman said: "The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service is currently in attendance at an incident involving hazardous material at Newbridge Industrial Estate.

"Two fire appliances were mobilised to industrial premises after a call came in at 2.33pm on Wednesday.

"Firefighters are using a powerful water jet to cool a cylinder that had leaked.

"The premises has been evacuated as a precaution."
