A 27-year-old man who allegedly tried to rob a pensioner was chased and arrested by off-duty police officers.

The pensioner, in his 80s, was reportedly accosted on Hawkcraig Road in Aberdour, Fife, on Saturday afternoon.

Two off-duty officers who happened to be nearby became involved and arrested the suspected thief.

He has been charged with assault with intend to rob and is expected to appear in court on Monday.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: "Police in Fife have charged a man in connection with an assault with intent to rob that occurred in Aberdour.

"The incident took place on June 24 at 3.10pm at Hawkcraig Road.

"A 27-year-old man is expected to appear at Dunfermline Sheriff Court today."
