A man has been arrested after a bomb disposal unit attended an incident in Edinburgh.

The 34-year-old has been charged under the Explosives Act and a number of items were removed from a property on Taylor Place in Meadowbank.

He has been detained in police custody and is expected to appear before Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Thursday.

The Explosives Ordnance Disposal (EOD) attended the property on Wednesday after the unexplained death of a teenage girl led to further inquiries.

Police were called to the address on Sunday, where they found the 18-year-old in an unconscious state.

Paramedics attended the scene soon after but the teenager died before she could be taken to hospital.

Officers investigating the death then discovered a number of "items" in the building, which led to an EOD team being called in on Wednesday morning.

A police spokeswoman said the items were not thought to be linked to the woman's death and there is no risk to local residents.

The death is being treated as unexplained and investigations are continuing.

The EOD are no longer at the property.
