The Duke of Edinburgh is carrying out his final official duties in Scotland, it is understood.

Prince Phillip, 96, said earlier this year that he would retire from public life in August.

He has been at the Queen's side during royal duties since their marriage in 1947.

Prince Philip is due to attend Duke of Edinburgh Award ceremonies at Holyrood Palace on Thursday, believed to be his last official event in Scotland.

Meanwhile, the Queen visited a Highland Spring bottling plant in Perth and Kinross on Thursday.

She was presented with a specially-labelled bottle after pressing the button to start the new production line.

The commemorative bottles have a crown on the brand's thistle logo and bear the slogan "specially selected for Her Majesty the Queen".

The royal couple visited the Kelpies yesterday - understood to be their last joint engagement - before the Queen met Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

Prince Philip will continue to be associated with more than 780 organisations after his retirement but he will no longer attend public engagements.

Announcing his decision, the palace said the Duke of Edinburgh had the "full support of the Queen".
