A thief brandished a knife at staff to steal washing up liquid from a newsagent.

The robbery happened at Nadeem's Store at Stenhouse Cross in Edinburgh at 12.15pm on Tuesday.

The man stole a bottle of washing up liquid after threatening workers with a knife.

He is described as white, between 5ft 10in and 6ft, and is thought to be around 25 years old.

The man had dark facial stubble and was wearing a thin black jacket over a dark hooded top. He was also wearing a dark baseball cap, dark trousers and white trainers while carrying an orange carrier bag.

Detective constable Kevin Walls said: "This was a frightening incident for staff and officers quickly attended and searched the area but the man was not located.

"The man was seen to enter the shop earlier at about 10.55am and again at 11.05am so he may have been loitering in the area prior to the robbery."

Anyone with information is asked to contact 101.
