A man who was arrested after a woman was raped in a courtyard has been released.

The 22-year-old man was held following the incident near Candleriggs Court in Alloa, Clackmannanshire, in the early hours of Sunday morning.

He was due to appear at Alloa Sheriff Court but was liberated before the hearing took place.

A woman was receiving specialist support while police put a cordon in place.

A Crown Office spokesman said: "The procurator fiscal received a report concerning a 22-year-old male in connection with an alleged incident in Alloa on September 17.

"He was liberated from custody pending further inquiries and did not appear in court."

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said investigations into the rape were continuing.
