A classroom has been closed after part of a primary school ceiling fell off.

The incident, involving falling plaster, happened at Broughton Primary School in Edinburgh.

Pupils were in a PE class in the school's gym hall when it happened on Wednesday.

The classroom has been cordoned off and the primary two class has been moved to a different part of the school.

Edinburgh City Council confirmed letters were sent to parents alerting them of the incident.

A spokesman said nobody was injured.

He said: "A piece of plaster work fell down from the ceiling in the corner in an empty classroom yesterday.

"Our property services team went to the school immediately to check the classroom and other areas of the school.

"Remedial work is now under way in the room and the pupils are being taught in a different classroom in the school."
