An international investigation by the FBI into a global paedophile network led to a static caravan on the outskirts of Perth.

The home of William Stewart, 19, was raided by police officers who were tipped off that he had been downloading videos showing children being abused.

Fiscal depute Tina Dickie told Perth Sheriff Court on Tuesday that the trail to the caravan was sparked by an investigation by the FBI.

She said: "The accused was 17 at the time and was a school pupil with no previous convictions. He lived at Double Dykes caravan park in a three-bed static caravan.

"The police received intelligence from the International Law Enforcement Agency that an account registered to the accused had been accessing indecent images of children from the internet.

"A warrant was executed. It was confirmed he was the only one who had access to the devices. He had an email address linked to a Dropbox account."

She said Stewart was found to have 3292 images and 229 videos linked to the Dropbox account and he confirmed to police he was the sole user.

Ms Dickie added: "Regarding the Dropbox, international letters of request to the USA allowed recovery of information from the Department of Justice and the Federal Bureau of Investigation."

Stewart admitted possessing indecent images of children at his home between November 23, 2014, and August 27, 2015.

Sheriff William Wood deferred sentence for social work reports and added Stewart to the sex offenders register.
