An elderly man is fighting for his life after crashing his car while parking.

It is thought the 74-year-old may have become unwell at the wheel before the "low-speed" collision on Venlaw View in Peebles, Borders, on Thursday.

The man was parking his Suzuki Splash when it struck a parked Renault Twingo around 10.45am.

He was taken to Borders General Hospital where he remains in a critical condition.

Police appealed for anyone with information to come forward.

Sergeant Gary Taylor said: "At this time, we believe the driver of the Suzuki may have taken unwell behind the wheel, resulting in the collision.

"However, as part of our ongoing inquiries we are keen to speak to anyone who was in the area and witnessed what happened.

"If you believe you have information that can assist with our investigation the please contact police immediately."
