A Scottish boxer who was injured during a fight in Edinburgh is making "very positive" progress in hospital.

Gary Murray, of Coatbridge in North Lanarkshire, was taken to hospital after the fight with Irishman Patrick Gallagher at Meadowbank Sports Centre on Friday night.

Murray, 30, remains in a stable condition in Edinburgh's Western General hospital.

After a ten-round contest, doctors discovered an injury which required "immediate attention."

His promoters MTK Scotland gave an update on his condition on Monday morning.

Posting on Twitter, they said: "Thank you to everyone who has been in touch with kind words in relation to Gary Murray.

"We are pleased to let everyone know that he remains stable and in good hands in hospital.

"All signs are very positive and the doctors caring for Gary and happy with his progress."

Mr Murray suffered a stoppage loss to Mr Gallagher in the fight on Friday, marking the boxer's first defeat.
