An easyJet flight bound for Edinburgh was forced to land in Glasgow due to high winds caused by Hurricane Ophelia.

The pilot on the flight from Paphos, Cyprus, attempted two landings at Edinburgh Airport on Sunday before deeming the weather too dangerous.

The plane was forced to land in Glasgow shortly after 2.45am, 30 minutes later than scheduled.

Flights in and out of Edinburgh are using the airport's secondary runway while essential maintenance work is being carried out on the main strip.

Scotland is expected to be battered by high winds and heavy rain from Hurricane Ophelia over the next few days.

A yellow weather warning has been issued for parts of Scotland including Edinburgh between midday on Monday and 3pm on Tuesday.

STV weather presenter Sean Batty said wind speeds could reach up to 60mph in places.
