Two boys allegedly destroyed a poppy wreath by setting it alight at a war memorial in the Borders.

The pair, aged 12 and 13, have been charged with an act of vandalism at the Wilton Park memorial in Hawick on Sunday, October 1.

They will now be referred to the children's reporter.

Police are still trying to identify another individual believed to be involved and anyone with information is asked to come forward.

Inspector Carol Wood from Hawick Police Station said: "We recognise the distress and anger this incident caused the local community and the public can be reassured that this matter has been investigated robustly.

"While two arrests have been made, we are continuing with our inquiries and if you believe you have any other information relevant to this incident then please contact us immediately."

Those with information can contact Hawick Police Station on 101, quoting incident 1547 of October 1.
