A five-year-old boy who is losing his sight has been given a specially trained therapy dog following a fundraising appeal.

Kearyn Adamson, from Loanhead in Midlothian, suffers from a rare genetic condition called neurofibromatosis, which means tumours can grow at nerve endings anywhere on his body.

This has led to a tumour growing behind his right eye and an additional complication of glaucoma means he will eventually become blind.

In March this year, his family started raising money to buy him a therapy dog before he loses his sight.

An online campaign raised almost £5000 to buy the dog, which will help keep the five-year-old calm.

As Kearyn is autistic any changes to his routine make him anxious.

The golden labrador, called Sauce, has now arrived at the family home and is bonding with Kearyn.

His father Kenneth said: "The idea with Sauce is to bring that feeling of home to wherever he is. To help calm him, to help him adjust to a new situation a lot quicker and a lot better.

"Last night was the first overnight stay and Kearyn was more than happy to have Sauce attempt to sleep in his room, he was wanting Sauce in his bed.

"That sort of bonding and interaction is priceless for us."
