A man has been detained after a teenage girl was allegedly raped in a lane in Fife.

The 15-year-old girl was reportedly attacked sometime between 11pm and 11.30pm on Saturday near Carnegie Drive in Dunfermline.

The alleged rape is said to have taken place on the lane known as St Margaret's Path.

Police Scotland confirmed a man has been detained in connection with the incident.

A spokeswoman for the force said: "Police in Fife are investigating a report that a 15-year-old girl was the victim of serious sexual assault in the Carnegie Drive area of Dunfermline between 11pm and 11.30pm on Saturday.

"A man is currently detained in connection with this and detectives would urge anyone who may have information to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 1699 of October 29."
