A man has been charged with raping a woman at the entrance to a car park in Edinburgh.

He allegedly attacked the 33-year-old on Links Place in the early hours of Wednesday, October 25.

She suffered a head injury during the assault and also reported that a sum of money stolen had been stolen from her.

A 30-year-old man was arrested on Thursday following a police investigation.

Detective chief inspector Martin MacLean, of Edinburgh's public protection unit, said: "Following the attack on a 33-year-old woman within Links Place on Wednesday, October 25, a thorough investigation led to a 30-year-old man being arrested and charged on Thursday, November 2.

"I would like to thank the public for the excellent response we received to our appeal for help. Both locally in Leith, and across Edinburgh, residents came forward and provided vital support to our investigation."
