Asian families are being victimised by thieves targeting them for their gold jewellery.

At least ten homes have been broken into in Fife in recent weeks, STV News understands.

They include six properties in Kirkcaldy, Dalgety Bay and Dunfermline, plus another in Glenrothes.

The thieves are believed to be targeting valuable jewellery often gifted as wedding presents and handed down as heirlooms by Asian families.

Gold jewellery and a Mercedes E220 were stolen from a house on Dean Park Court in Kirkcaldy on Tuesday.

Jewellery was also taken from a home on Eardley Court in Glenrothes on the same night.

Detective inspector Paul Dick said: "Once again we have seen homes being broken into with the intention of stealing Asian gold from homeowners.

"I would appeal to anyone who has information about these crimes to contact Police Scotland."
