Passengers are facing delays following the incident near South Gyle station at around 4.20pm on Thursday.
ScotRail said the line between Edinburgh and Inverkeithing would be affected.
Services between Edinburgh and Cowdenbeath, Dundee, Inverness and Perth may be cancelled or revised.
A spokesman for British Transport Police said: "Officers are on site alongside paramedics."
