A teenager has appeared in private at court charged with murdering a 34-year-old man in Perth.

Jakub Kmieciak, 19, is alleged to have killed Rafal Rymackiewicz by stabbing him on the body with a knife on Saturday.

The teenager made a brief appearance from custody at Perth Sheriff Court on Wednesday and made no plea or declaration in relation to the murder charge.

Kmieciak, of Malcolm Court in Perth, is alleged to have struck Mr Rymackiewicz on the body with a knife and murdered him at a flat in Wallace Court at the weekend.

The case against him was continued for further investigation and Kmieciak was remanded in custody after making no motion for bail.

The street was cordoned off by police after the incident and a series of door-to-door inquiries were carried out by officers.

Detective inspector Brian Geddes, who is leading the investigation, said: "I would like to reassure the local community that this was a contained and isolated incident and at no point was there any threat posed to any other member of the public.

"Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the man. I would like to thank people who live nearby for their patience."
