Four women have been injured after being hit by their car.

The incident happened on Broomhouse Avenue in Edinburgh at 9.40pm on Wednesday.

The women were in a Vauxhall Mokka and got out to inspect the car before it moved back and struck them.

Two of the women, aged 59 and 60, were taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary with serious injuries. The others, aged 58 and 81, suffered minor injuries.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: "Police in Edinburgh are investigating following a serious road collision in the west of the city.

"The incident happened at around 9.40 pm on Wednesday on Broomhouse Avenue.

"A Vauxhall Mokka moved backwards and collided with four women."

She added: "A 60-year-old sustained serious injuries to her body while a 59-year-old suffered injuries to her head. Both were taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh where they remain in serious conditions.

"Two other women aged 58 and 81 sustained minor injuries and were also taken to hospital as a precaution.

"Enquiries are ongoing into the full circumstances surrounding this collision."
