Four people have been arrested after police seized drugs from two cars in Midlothian.

Officers noticed suspicious activity in a Peugeot car in Mayfield on Monday around 11.35am.

They searched the vehicle, which was stopped on Mayfield Place, and seized 2.6g of cocaine and 2.6g of cannabis.

A 65-year-old man and a 24-year-old woman were arrested.

On the same day, police in Dalkeith stopped an Audi A3 on Newbattle Road around 6.30pm and searched the car.

The officers seized 1.5g of cocaine and and a 21-year-old man and a 22-year-old woman were arrested.

They are due to appear in court at a later date.

Sergeant Stuart Aitchison said: "These drug searches were conducted because of the vigilance of local officers and resulted in harmful substances, intended for dealing within the Midlothian community, to be seized.

"Tackling drug crime remains one of our top priorities and in addition to responding to intelligence, we will continue with proactive patrols to identify those involved in drug crime and bring them to justice.
