Police are following various leads after launching an appeal to trace a Finnish tourist who went missing in Edinburgh.

Riina Elisabeth Sjogren, 38, was last seen at York Place tram stop around 10.20pm on Tuesday, January 9.

She had earlier left Edinburgh Airport after buying a plane ticket she did not use and abandoning some of her belongings.

Police Scotland have thanked members of the public after receiving a good response in their appeal to trace Ms Sjogren.

A Finnish officer who works in the force's Edinburgh Division is liaising with Ms Sjogren's family and the authorities in Finland.

Ms Sjogren, who works as a teacher, had not told her family she was planning on travelling to Scotland when they last saw her over Christmas.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: "We've had a good response to the appeal and wish to thank the public for their assistance so far.

"Our dedicated team are following up various leads and carrying out multiple lines of inquiry.

"We also have a Finnish police officer in Edinburgh Division who is liaising with Riina's family and the authorities in Finland on behalf of the inquiry team.

"Anyone who has information and hasn't yet come forward is asked to contact officers on 101 quoting 3748 of January 9."

Ms Sjogren is described as white, 5ft 3in tall, of medium build with shoulder-length dark brown hair and wears glasses.
