A ten-year-old girl has been injured after being struck by a car.

The incident happened on Haddington Road near Asda in Tranent, East Lothian.

The youngster was hit by a Vauxhall Meriva at 4.15pm on Wednesday.

Officers said the driver stopped to speak to a pedestrian following the incident but the girl had run off to join her friends.

She was later taken to hospital.

Inspector Jocelyn O'Connor said: "We are not treating this as a hit-and-run because the driver did stop but the girl had already run off to join her friends.

"We would simply like the driver to get in touch via 101 to assist us with our enquiries."
