A driver fled the scene of a two-car smash after crashing into a central reservation before careering into woods.

The crash happened on the A92 near Cowdenbeath in Fife on Wednesday night.

A Vauxhall Corsa crashed into a Volkswagen Golf before smashing into the central reservation.

The Corsa then careered into nearby woods before the driver fled the scene.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: "A Vauxhall Corsa was travelling west when it left the carriageway and collided with a Volkswagen Golf travelling along the eastbound carriageway.

"The Corsa then struck the central reservation before leaving the road and coming to a stop within a nearby wooded area.

"Road policing officers closed the westbound carriageway for 45 minutes and the eastbound carriageway for one hour and 15 minutes while the Corsa was recovered and debris was cleared from the road.

"Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding this collision and to trace the male driver who left the area following the incident."
