A knife-wielding robber has raided a petrol station.

The incident happened at the Gulf petrol station on the High Street in Cowdenbeath, Fife.

A man threatened a member of staff with a knife before stealing a three-figure sum of cash shortly after 5am on Thursday.

He also took cigarettes before running towards Foulford Road.

The robber is slim, around 20-years-old and was wearing a balaclava while carrying a dark holdall.

Inspector Kelly McEwan said: "Thankfully the shop worker was uninjured but was understandably left shaken.

"We are keen to trace the suspect as soon as possible and would ask anyone with information that can help with our inquiries to get in touch.

"We believe the man arrived and left on foot and would ask anyone who was in the High Street area at around 5am this morning and who may have seen any suspicious behaviour to contact us as soon as possible.

"Equally anyone who knows who is responsible, or has information that can help with our investigations, is asked to contact officers immediately."

Anyone with information is asked to contact 101.
