Rail passengers are facing delays ahead of rush hour after a fire broke out on a train near Cupar in Fife.

The blaze started shortly after 3pm on Thursday underneath one of the carriages.

All passengers were evacuated from the train after firefighters were called out to tackle the flames.

Crews from Auchtermuchty, Cupar and Glenrothes were called to the scene.

A fire service spokeswoman said everyone on board was safe and the fire did not enter the carriage.

ScotRail said disruption was expected until around 5pm, with services between Edinburgh, Dundee and Aberdeen affected.

Replacement buses have been arranged for several services.
