A major blaze at a derelict car park has sent smoke billowing across Edinburgh.

The fire started at the city's Autosafe SkyPark on Morrison Street at 11.10am on Wednesday.

Smoke could be seen for miles after two cars went up in flames.

The facility was described as the "car park of the future" with robots being used to stack vehicles.

It went into receivership in 2003, leaving two abandoned vehicles still inside the building.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman said: "We have two appliances at the scene.

"Two cars were on fire."
