A car has burst into flames on the M9, causing lengthy delays for commuters.

The white saloon car caught fire on a stretch of the road near the Kelpies statues in Falkirk around 7.30am on Friday.

One lane of the eastbound carriageway was blocked as emergency services were called to the scene, with traffic slowing in both directions.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said the blaze was extinguished after crews found the vehicle "well alight."

No casualties were reported.
