An elderly woman has been knocked down by a car outside a pub in Edinburgh.

Emergency services were called to the scene after the pedestrian was knocked down outside the Canny Man's pub on Morningside Road.

The incident took place around 8.35am on Friday and the woman was later taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.

The extent of her injuries is not yet known.

Drivers in the area experienced delays on Friday morning.

A spokesman from the Scottish Ambulance Service said: "We received a call at 8.31am today to attend a road traffic incident on Morningside Road, Edinburgh.

"We dispatched two ambulances to the scene and a female patient in her 70s was transported to the Royal Infirmary Edinburgh."
